The VLT on Google Maps

After spending some (a lot) of time looking for the VLT on Google Maps, I finally found it! The Very Large Telescope is a set of 4 large astronomical telescopes, among the largest in the world (8.2 meters of diameter per telescope, set up in interfrerometer, and part of the European Southern Observatory, the ESO. Every night, these four sharp eyes scan the dark night sky and track down interesting astronomy objects, such as nebula, galaxies, and Star Clusters. The VLT was installed in the Atacama desert, on mount Cerro Paranal (2635 m, or 8645 feet), where it rains only once per year. The sky is extremely pure, which allows the Telescopes to render great pictures of the night sky.
This is because there is a permanant anticyclone positionned directly over the desert (duh).
Anyway, I’ll try finding more observatories in the future.
