10 Astronomy Numbers…

There are some astronomy and physics numbers you just have to know if you’re an amateur astronomer. Here they are:

  • 13.7 billion - Age of the Universe
  • 110 - The number of entries in Messier’s catalog
  • 1642 - Date of Birth of Newton, Date of Death of Galileo Galilei
  • 150 million - Distance between Earth and Sun in Kilometers (km)
  • 300 000 - Speed of light in kilometers per second (km/s)
  • 4.6 - Distance in light-years to the nearest star, Proxima Centauri
  • Novemer 17 - Date of the Leonids (approximately)
  • 2061 - Next passage of Halley’s Comet (remember only if you’re still alive in 2061 ;-) ).
  • 1915 - Date of publication of General Relativity

That really is the Minimum (I could go on for ages, and you don’t want me to do that)
Oh, another thing:

  • Tomorrow - Next update of Astronomy-Page! (Haha good one…)

Anyway, see you tomorrow,
Clement
