10 Astronomy Numbers…
There are some astronomy and physics numbers you just have to know if you’re an amateur astronomer. Here they are:
- 13.7 billion - Age of the Universe
- 110 - The number of entries in Messier’s catalog
- 1642 - Date of Birth of Newton, Date of Death of Galileo Galilei
- 150 million - Distance between Earth and Sun in Kilometers (km)
- 300 000 - Speed of light in kilometers per second (km/s)
- 4.6 - Distance in light-years to the nearest star, Proxima Centauri
- Novemer 17 - Date of the Leonids (approximately)
- 2061 - Next passage of Halley’s Comet (remember only if you’re still alive in 2061
). - 1915 - Date of publication of General Relativity
That really is the Minimum (I could go on for ages, and you don’t want me to do that)
Oh, another thing:
- Tomorrow - Next update of Astronomy-Page! (Haha good one…)
Anyway, see you tomorrow,
Clement
